TESOL Thesis Statement:   Multiple tesol methods benefits L2 language production.

TESOL stands for Teaching English to speakers of other languages. Have you ever thought about what the best way is for learning and teaching a second language? Have you ever seen some information related to best method of learning? Have you tried found the best ways for you to learn a second language yet? Most of the time, we can see many articles saying one single method is the best way to learn a language. From my perspective, using multiple methods combined can benefit the language learners more.

Noel van Vliet says “ Effective language learning is a multi channel process. TESOL Experts agree that you learn best from various sources, engaging a multitude of the senses — not from just one method or course. ” The shifting contemporary views are that L2 acquisition is optimized when using transferable methods, rather than a singular one. Many people believe that communicating with a native speaker can help the L2 learners learn the language extremely well, however, from personal experience, you can improve your speaking, listening and comprehension well through communication with native speakers or live in another country, but to gain reading and writing skills is not easy. Only concentrate on two segments are not fully acquire the language skills yet. Reading and writing need to be trained in a varied way. Writing is particularly special as it is the highest output form of a language, and it can only be practiced physically by yourself. That is why communication is not enough for fully learning a language.

Using a single method is inefficient. It can be a hindrance stead of a help. People have variety of learning styles. Some people choose to use books or a product to learn language, it may help solitary learner, but not suitable for all types of learners, learners are easy to lose their interest with the wrong approach. For instance, visual learners prefer to have visual stimulation rather than written information which means only learning by using books or a single guide material does not benefit them. Social learners prefer involving participation with others. likewise, it will not work for them with only books. Therefore, one single method is not enough.

Multiple TESOL methods combination can help L2 learners achieve their target in shorter time. Obviously, people needs to know their own learning type and choose multiple methods which are suitable for them. People who likes music can learn languages by singing songs, people who likes movies can learn languages by watching films. In this way, they can keep the interests of learning and learn it quickly. With different method combined, learners can learn speaking and listening by communication, learn reading by reading stories, learn writing by writing diary. Eventually with multiple methods, they can learn language skills comprehensively. Meanwhile, multiple methods save time for their language learning path.

In conclusion, multiple tesol methods benefits L2 language production, not only helping with people’s skills acquisition, but also to drive their interests, give them the confidence to keep learning and improve the efficiency, half the work with double result.. To know your learning styles, find your interest and consistently with whichever methods enhance you.
