Visual learning in TESOL

With the development of the Internet, visual learning has become one of the main methods of English learning. Visual learning is a learning mode associated with images. Visual learners refer to the process in which learners acquire knowledge through visual tools, including painting, photography, video, slides, etc. These tools help to present educational content more effectively.

Visual learning is a very effective learning method, because it helps increase the learners' interest in learning, make the learning process more interesting, and keep the learners' interest for a longer time.


Features of visual learning

The idea of visual learning is summarized as follows: visual AIDS include pictures, objects, videos, and things for learners to see and talk about; Presenting visual effects in class helps focus attention; In meaning, helping to make language more alive; Having something to look at can keep learners' attention and make the class more interesting.


Visual learners learn simultaneously, mastering large amounts of information through intuitive leaps, rather than gradually accumulating isolated facts, small steps, or habitual patterns of acquired practice. Visual learning attracts almost all the attention of the individual because it makes the learning process more interesting and gives the learner a new experience and finally can effectively communicate the language.


Information is regarded as a separate entity in visual learning. Using information as a key element of visual learning means establishing a relationship and an object between subjects. This means that it is as much a relationship between the author and the message as it is a relationship between the audience and the message.


Skills of visual learning

Teaching English through pictures is tricky. It is found that the value of image is to help memory, and it guides learners to use image to remember objects. These memory techniques are similar to visual learning processes in that they use the learner's long-term visual memory to maintain knowledge.


Visual learning is a continuous process, which is more effective, communicative and interesting for English teaching and learning.
